Sport putting the school at the heart of the community

This is another of the presentations at the Enterprising School Sports conference which takes place at Powerleague Woodlands Academy, Coventry on 29th Janaury 2013.

Ben Tanner, Community Sport Manager and Paul Schofield, Partnership Development Manager will be delivering the presentation.

Our Lady’s R.C High School Our Lady’s is a VA High School with 745 pupils aged 11-16 located 3.5 miles north of Manchester City Centre. The school is a new ‘Building Schools for the Future’ build which opened in 2009. The school serves an area of significant and social disadvantage with 3 local wards failing within the top 10 most deprived wards nationally. Sport has been a major driver in our aim to ensure we are at the heart of the community. Our Community Sport programme is diverse and developmental, offering a range of 23 clubs and activities that engage over 2000 local community members weekly.

Ben Tanner, Community Sport Manager, has worked at Our Lady’s for 4 years and is the ‘engine’ behind the programme. Paul Schofield, Partnership Development Manager, works with the local schools and groups and has been part of the development team since 2003.
